Lanarkshire primary school celebrates Queen's jubilee in style with host of activities

A Lanarkshire primary school held a host of activities to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee last week.

Pupils at St John's Primary in Hamilton dressed in the colours of the British flag and wore handcrafted crowns they made to mark the occasion.

A special menu at lunch time was introduced to schools across South Lanarkshire on Wednesday, June 1.

That saw the youngsters take part in a celebratory feast dedicated to the monarch before class stopped for the long bank holiday weekend.

A fabulous display of talent was then shown as the children at St John's submitted their entries for their Jubilee-themed drawing competition.

Queen Elizabeth II was depicted on a number of drawings as the pupils showed off their impressive artwork.

Some children also showed their creative side through using 3D shapes to build castles for the Queen in class.

The school grounds and playing area were draped in bunting as the celebrations continued outdoors.

Pupils got involved in making thrones out of recycled materials in the playground, before an outdoor disco was held.

A great party-atmosphere was enjoyed by all as kids and teachers got involved in the dancing and celebrated in style.

It comes as communities across Lanarkshire got involved to celebrate the Queen's historic 70-year reign on the throne.

On Thursday, the celebrations began with the lighting of two official beacons in Strathclyde Country Park by the Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire, Lady Susan Haughey.

More events continued throughout the long weekend.
