Lanarkshire police launch investigation after car 'deliberately' torched in busy street

Police in Airdrie have launched an appeal for information after a car was "deliberately" torched in a busy street last week.

Officers were called to the town's Clark Street at around 11.55pm on Thursday, April 7, following a report of a vehicle on fire.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service officers attended and extinguished the blaze safely - fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries.

Police are treating the incident as wilful fire-raising.

DC Lyndsay McKinnon told Lanarkshire Live : “A burgundy/red SUV and two men were seen in the area around the time and I am appealing to anyone with information about this vehicle or any other information which may assist us to get in touch.

"I would also appeal to anyone who has possible dash-cam or CCTV footage that may be able to assist us with our enquiries."

Anyone with any information is asked to Police Scotland on 101.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
