A Tik Tok made by a Lanarkshire businessman revealing the true cost of pizza has left viewers stunned with over two million views in a matter of hours.
The video, made by those at Boss Pizza in Hamilton, takes a £10 pizza and breaks down all of the costs involved such as wages, tax, rents, business rates and other costs.
It starts by asking people in Glasgow what they think the profit margins are in the pizza - this is then followed by a detailed breakdown by businessman, Ajmal Mushtaq, the owner of the pizza franchise
Ajmal explained: "The purpose of this video is to demonstrate how hard businesses across the country have to work to earn even a basic amount of profit.
"This video highlights the public perception that business is all profit, profit and more profit."
In the video, the £10 pizza is sliced up according to the expenditure, with the ‘profit’ slice amounting to just 64 pence. This means the net profit on this £10 pizza is 6.4 per cent.
Ajmal continued: "Any business that generates three to eight per cent Net Profit is regarded as a healthy business. Businesses that bring in double digit profit margins are regarded as very good."
The breakdown figures were the taken from the aggregate expenditure over the period of a year. For example, the wage cost of £2.40 relates directly to the annual 24 per cent wage cost.
The video quickly went viral with already over two million views, 112,000 likes and over 2500 comments in a very short space of time.
