Pensioners in Cambuslang are still waiting for improvements to be made to their pothole-ridden street - nine months after South Lanarkshire Council declared repairs would be made.
Residents at Maple Tree Court complained last year that cracked pavements, numerous potholes and poor road conditions meant they felt unsafe when leaving the housing complex, which consists of 54 flats.
The road comes partly under South Lanarkshire Council’s (SLC) jurisdiction and partly under Hanover Scotland, who own the homes there.
Last year the local authority stated they would “prioritise” the repairs to the Cambuslang street but several months have passed and locals believe little improvement has been made.
We were contacted by a local who is friends with some residents at Maple Tree Court.
She told Lanarkshire Live : “Nothing has been done about this.
"It is still in a shocking state and it still feels like you are going to fall over every time you are walking there.
“The footpaths and the surrounding areas don’t seem to have been swept in years either,- so there are tree branches all over the place and that makes it even more dangerous.
“Something really needs to be done about it, because it can’t continue to be left in such a state.”
Last year residents there expressed fears that those using wheelchairs or mobility scooters were most at risk due to the state of the street.
We first reported on their concerns in May, and then again in July.
At that time a Council spokesperson told us: “Maple Tree Court is not an adopted road, although part of it is in council ownership.
“We have prioritised carrying out pothole infill repairs as an interim measure to address safety concerns and are considering more comprehensive repairs and layout improvements in the longer term.”
When we asked the local authority what steps they have taken since last summer, they replied: ““Maple Tree Road is not a publicly adopted road, however, there is some council ownership at this location.
“As such, we have costed and are considering the possibility of larger scale repairs. In the interim we will inspect the road and deal with any immediate safety concerns relating to the condition of the surface."
After we contacted the local authority, work was carried out on some of the larger potholes around Maple Tree Court last week.
A spokesman for Hanover Scotland said: "We are aware of the issue with the roads outside Maple Tree Court.
"These are owned by SLC who have pledged to ensure that repairs are made to the surface as soon as possible."
