A Wishaw parent has blasted parking arrangements at Ravenscraig when a number of sporting events are taking place.
The man, who asked not to be named, spoke out following a number of parents being given parking fines after they were unable to park in the designated car parks due to a number of events taking place at the sports facility.
He said: “I’m just looking for direction from the council about it. There isn’t enough parking there for when everyone is there watching their kids play.
“A few weeks ago there were plenty of parents who got parking fines but there is literally nowhere else for people to park.
“It was a easy day for the traffic wardens handing out fines because there was no parking. I suppose it’s easy money.
“Ravenscraig hosts a whole host of sports like gymnastics or boxing as well as football so you’ve got a lot of cars going in and out of there taking boys and girls to their sports clubs.
“A few weeks ago we couldn’t get near the car park because it’s so busy. Where are we supposed to go?”
In November last year, Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig Labour councillor Kenneth Duffy called on Police Scotland to do more about the situation at the sports centre.
The councillor said he had received a number of complaints from local residents who were worried that people parking dangerously will one day cause an accident.
This week, a council spokesperson said: “As well as the main car park, there is an overflow car park at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility.
“Despite this, some drivers park on verges, footways and cycle paths and even in bus stops and disabled bays.
“This causes an obvious safety risk for people, particularly children, using the facility and the adjacent public park.
“Where illegal parking happens, Penalty Charge Notices will continue to be issued.”
