Lanarkshire musician gets ready to rock King Tut's with single launch show

A Lanarkshire musician will debut his first single as a solo artist out of lockdown at the legendary King Tut's this Saturday (February 19).

Steven Young experienced transatlantic success as the enigmatic frontman for The Imagineers with sold out shows across the UK and slots at festivals including T in the Park.

And their name was cemented across the pond with seven appearances on Craig Ferguson's The Late Late show.

Following the break up of the band, Steven embarked on a trip across Europe taking inspiration from local musicians which led to the formation of his critically acclaimed garage punk band GANGS .

Destined for a solo career, Steven has now created his own project, combining the eclectic experiences he has encountered along the way.

Drawing inspiration from artists like The Last Shadow Puppets, Scott Walker, The Divine Comedy , and The Coral , 'Delirious World' is his latest cut, following on from the recent release of his fourth single 'Chains'.

Exploring ego, death and our own mortality, Delirious World fuses all the ingredients of Steven’s psychedelic songwriting into one track.

Rockabilly guitartones present an air of menace akin to a spaghetti western, and are flanked by the rhythm section’s simple toetapping beat, allowing Steven’s rich, soulful vocals to take centre stage.

'Delirious World' is a perfect blend of cinematic sounds effortlessly incorporating elements of AM pop, baroque pop and contemporary indie-rock.

Steven’s solo offering is already making waves with features on Tenement TV as well as radio airplay on BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway, Roddy Hart, Janice Forsyth shows and Amazing Radio’s Jim Gellatly show.

Steven told Lanarkshire Live : "I just released my fifth single as a solo artist, though most of them were released in and around lockdowns so I feel I'm just starting to get a bit of momentum going with it all.

"I wrote a lot of new material during lockdown and I've whittled it down to 10 songs. They're all fully recorded and the album is ready to go - a single at a time for now and looking gather some steam.

"The King Tut's gig this Saturday will only be my second in this project. I have a seven-piece band playing with me, so it's quite a grand and energetic spectacle live.

"I'm planning on doing a few more singles this year and working on getting some festival slots, tours further afield around the UK.

"I should be able to announce something very soon."

Delirious World was released on February 9 on Freq House Records, with an EP to follow, culminating in the release of Steven's hotly anticipated debut album by the end of the year.
