Lanarkshire mum who survived cancer drops six dress sizes

A Lanarkshire mum who survived cancer has shown off her new figure after dropping six dress sizes in an incredible transformation.

Jennifer Paterson has battled with her weight for longer than she cared to remember.

The 67-year-old had always tried to shift the pounds with a variety of different techniques, but would always give up within days.

It wasn't until Jennifer ballooned to 15 stone 13 pounds and was wearing size 24 clothes that she decided enough was enough.

Jennifer, from Kilsyth, told the Daily Record: "The weight just kept going up and eventually I would start telling myself that this doesn't work.

"Eventually, I plucked up the courage to weigh myself in a Boots store and was horrified to see that I was over 15 stone - this was the last straw I decided that there was no way I was going to hit 16 stone, I just had to do something about it."

The mum-of-one began finally making progress on her weightloss journey and shed over two stone when she was hit with devastating news.

The retired learning disability teacher was diagnosed with bowel cancer in January 2013.

Despite undergoing surgery to remove the tumours, doctors revealed her cancer had spread to both lungs.

Brave Jennifer made a miraculous recovery by 2019 and was in remission when she finally focused on getting healthier after her weight started to rise again.

She said: "History had begun to repeat itself and gradually my weight began to climb until I was nearly 13 stone. It seemed that I was powerless."

She rejoined Weight Watchers after previous failed attempts and watched her weight plummet.

She has now dropped a extraordinary six dress sizes, with pictures showing her unbelievable transformation.

She said: "I have managed to reach my new goal weight of 11 stone six pounds.

"I was now wearing size 12/14 but best of all my new shape had registered in my brain and I liked it - no going back now."

"I am now aiming to get down a little further to under 11 stone, or even back to my first goal weight of 10 stone or slightly lower would be good.

"I now look at my before and after pictures, in one I see a woman who was very much out of control, with no self-worth and the other is a person who has learned so much about herself", she added.

Jennifer credits Weight Watchers with her incredible transformation, for keeping her on track and providing invaluable support.
