Lanarkshire mum living pain free and happy life after shedding four stone

A Lanarkshire mum is living a pain free, mobile and happier life after shedding over four stone.

Carol McConville struggled to walk due to the pain of psoriatic arthritis and would often be in tears due to her ankles and feet being so sore.

So, she decided to try and lose some weight and joined Slimming World in 2020 when real life groups had reopened.

Carol joined the Wishaw group and quickly realised that nothing was off limits with her 'food optimising plan,' which makes the journey all about making healthier choices.

She told Lanarkshire Live : “My favourite meals to enjoy include diet cola chicken, spaghetti bolognese and shepherds pie.

“My partner eats all the meals I make and now even my nine-year-old is starting to try more making it a real family affair.”

Carol makes use of the Slimming World website and app exclusive to members and her groups own private Facebook pages for recipe ideas and inspiration.

Even when a change in restrictions meant groups had to return to a virtual service in late 2020/2021, Carol continued with her weight loss journey and found as she lost weight she could walk much better than before and get about much easier - not mention fitting into clothes that she hadn’t worn for a while.

Having lost almost four and a half stone, Carol achieved her dream target weight just over 12 months after joining Slimming World and was voted her group’s Woman of the Year by fellow members.

Angela Harris who runs the Thursday evening group at the Loyola Centre, said Carol's changes "are incredible".

She told us : “I hope this success will inspire other people in Wishaw who’d like to lose weight by forming new lifestyle habits and become happier and healthier to take action.

“There’s a warm welcome waiting at Slimming World and, just think, if you start today you could feel like a completely new person just like Carol.”

The Wishaw group meets every Thursday 5.30pm or 7pm in the Loyola Centre, Campbell Street, Wishaw.
