Lanarkshire MSP welcomes policy announcements to help ages across the spectrum

A Lanarkshire MSP has welcomed announcements that aim to help people of all ages in Scotland.

Neil Gray MSP has welcomed changes that will see Anne’s Law put into practical effect while legislation is being prepared.

Anne’s Law aims to ensure people who live in adult care homes have the right to see and get support from those who are important to them.

There will be a stepped approach to its introduction which follows a public consultation that found overwhelming backing for Anne’s law and for a change to the Standards.

These new standards will be supported by the body that represents care homes, Scottish Care.

The Airdrie and Shotts MSP also welcomes a major plan containing 80 actions to improve the lives of children, young people and families in and around the edges of care.

The ‘Keeping the Promise Implementation Plan’ aims to significantly reduce the number of children in care, with at least £500m over this Parliamentary term to help families stay together.

Mr Gray told Lanarkshire Live : “Yet again, the Scottish Government is putting the people of Scotland at the very heart of decision making and policy.

“I had quite a few constituents contact me during lockdown regarding their fears of what loss of contact with relatives in a care home might do, so to see Anne’s Law becoming a reality is fantastic for them.

“Any changes to help families stay together has to be welcomed, which is why I am particularly pleased to see the 80 actions in the ‘Keeping the Promise Implementation Plan’.

"Kinship carers and foster carers do a fantastic job and I am so glad to see that a new allowance is being planned to help them.”
