Lanarkshire MSP welcomes funding for Clyde Gateway

Clare Haughey has welcomed some big-money funding to help improve the Clyde Gateway.

Ten schemes will share more than £5m from the government’s Vacant and Derelict Land Investment Programme.

The new purse will help transform some of Scotland’s vacant and derelict sites into housing, community gardens and places of enterprise.

The aim of it is to tackle climate change and encourage regeneration.

And Clyde Gateway are in line for a grant of £664000 to reinstall heat pump technology for the planned commercial developments at Magenta Business Park in Shawfield.

It is expected that the installation of this equipment will reduce carbon emissions.

Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey welcomed the news.

She told Lanarkshire Live: “Clyde Gateway’s track record of bringing businesses and jobs to Rutherglen, all while redeveloping derelict land, is incredible.

“The transformation around Shawfield and throughout parts of Rutherglen has been extraordinary, and so I am delighted the Scottish Government is continuing to back Clyde Gateway.

“This new, sizeable grant will deliver further community regeneration and help improve energy efficiency of the new developments.”

Ian Manson, chief executive of Clyde Gateway, told us : “The support and funding from the Scottish Government has been instrumental in our efforts to make Clyde Gateway ‘the place’ to live and work.

“The D2 grids project seeks to positively achieve carbon reductions in the drive to Net Zero and supports our designation as a Green Regeneration Innovation District (GRID), which in turn, will attract businesses and jobs back into Shawfield.”
