A Parliamentarian is aiming to run 22km every week for at least 22 weeks to help raise funds and plug the funding gap felt by domestic abuse charities.
That comes after North Lanarkshire Council decided to centralise its services, reducing the payments to external charities.
Neil said the cut to Women’s Aid funding has meant that vulnerable women and children could go unassisted.
He told Lanarkshire Live: "Monklands and Motherwell and District Women’s Aid offer lifeline services to women and children in threatening situations across the Airdrie and Shotts area.
“Sadly, in spite of that funding cut, there is growing demand for their services.
“I really wanted to do something that would challenge me and raise funds at the same time and my wife suggested that 22 for 22.
"It’s a great idea and means that this challenge will take me months to complete, giving me plenty of time to consider how physically and mentally challenging and how long it can take for women and children to flee domestic violence.
"Women’s Aid makes that process easier."
