Lanarkshire MSP praises efforts of local residents to help people in Ukraine

Meghan Gallacher has praised Lanarkshire communities who have rallied together to provide assistance to the people of Ukraine.

The MSP was reacting to news recently that Lanarkshire residents had rallied to the call and pulled together in a show of community spirit and unity.

Over the past few weeks, local volunteers, schools, and charities have worked tirelessly to co-ordinate the collection, sorting and transportation of much-needed donations for those in need.

Meghan has also recently lodged a motion with the Scottish Parliament recognising the amazing work of young people throughout Lanarkshire primary schools who have been working within the community to collect supplies to send to Ukraine.

Through this fantastic initiative young people have been collecting bedding, shelter and supplies to send to those affected by the current disaster unfolding in Ukraine.

Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP Meghan Gallacher told Lanarkshire Live : “I am always amazed at how the people of Lanarkshire pull together in times of crisis.

“It has been absolutely horrendous to witness the events unfolding in Ukraine over the last few weeks.

“However, the unselfish acts of humanity exhibited by people of Lanarkshire have shown the determination and resolve of our local communities to do their bit.

“As the Shadow Minister for Children and Young People I have been especially proud of the response from those in our school network.

“It should fill us with hope for the future to see how quickly children at primary schools across Lanarkshire have dedicated themselves to collecting supplies on behalf of the children and families of Ukraine.”
