East Kilbride's MP recently called on the Chancellor to support pensioners struggling with inflation on food and household bills.
Now Lisa Cameron is urging OAPs and eligible householders who have pension credit to put in a claim.
Pension credit is made up of two parts: guarantee credit and savings credit.
As of April 2022, guarantee credit is £182.60 if an individual is single or £278.70 if in a couple. Higher rates may be payable for those with disabilities.
Alternatively, savings credit may be available for individuals if their income is higher than the basic state pension. It is payable at £14.48 extra if someone is single or £16.20 if a couple.
To be eligible for pension credit you need to be of pensionable age, and from April 2022 your weekly income must be less than £182.60 (single) or £278.70 (couples).
If income is higher than this you may still be eligible if you have a severe disability, are a carer or have certain housing costs.
Government research currently indicates that 1.4 million people who are eligible have not yet claimed pension credit.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is renewing calls for people to check their eligibility.
Ms Cameron told Lanarkshire Live : "I am particularly concerned about pensioners on low incomes struggling through this cost of living crisis.
"At this time, I would ask local constituents to check their eligibility for pension credit and if in doubt, please do get in touch with me and I can help get the information you need."
