Lanarkshire motorists warned of delays as road set to be closed for four days

South Lanarkshire Council is notifying residents of upcoming road closures as improvements will be made.

Essential resurfacing is to begin on a main stretch of road in Clydesdale, closing the route for four days.

The A702 Abington from 83 Dumfries Road, Elvanfoot, to the Daer Water junction, will be closed from June 6 to June 10.

There will be a diversion route in place via the B7076, A701, A75, A76 and A702 which will be around 65 miles long taking around 90 minutes to travel.

Chair of the Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, councillor Robert Brown (Rutherglen South) said: “We apologise in advance for any inconvenience these essential works may cause.

“Please try to avoid the area if possible, and if you can’t, leave extra time for your journey.

“I hope local people will see the considerable benefit of the road resurfacing.”
