Lanarkshire motorists told to expect delays amidst essential roadworks on A725 in Blantyre

Essential maintenance works on a stretch of the A725 at Glasgow Road in Blantyre will take place this week.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking roadworks from tonight (Monday, March 21) until Saturday, March 26, between the hours of 8pm and 6am, each night.

This scheme, with a value of £50,000, will benefit around 37,000 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

Work will be carried out using a full closure, with a diversion route in place.

The diversion route is as follows:

  • Traffic travelling Eastbound will exit the A725 via the off-slip onto the roundabout and take third exit onto the B7012 Main Street, Blantyre. Traffic will travel straight through mini roundabout before taking 1st exit at the following roundabout (junction with Udstone Road). Vehicles will then turn left at the traffic lights onto A724 Glasgow Road before taking first exit at the roundabout and continue on the A724. Vehicles to take second exit on next two roundabouts to continue on A724. Vehicles to take second exit at Roundabout (junction with Whistleberry Road) and then turn right onto A725 Eastbound Slip to re-join main carriageway.

A spokesman for Amey said: "Our operatives will follow strict physical distancing and hygiene protocols throughout the programme, in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance.

"Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable."
