Lanarkshire motorists set to be affected by overnight M74 closures

Lanarkshire motorists have been told to expect night-time disruptions as overnight closures are scheduled for the M74 next month.

The southbound carriageway will be closed for eight nights to allow essential carriageway resurfacing works to take place.

The closures have been scheduled to minimise disruption to traffic, with the work required to ensure road user and road worker safety.

The M74 southbound carriageway between Junction 2A in Cambuslang (Fullarton Rd) and Junction 4 Maryville will be closed overnight for eight nights, starting at 8pm on most nights and running until 6am the following days:

  • Thursday 6 October 2022 & Friday 7 October 2022 (2 nights)
  • Monday 10 October 2022 to Friday 14 October 2022 (5 nights)*
  • Monday 17 October 2022 (1 night)

On Tuesday October 11 and Wednesday October 12 the time of the start of the closure will be delayed to suit traffic flows.

As a result, the following slip roads and link road will also be closed:

  • M74 southbound Junction 2A Cambuslang (Fullarton Rd) on slip road
  • M74 southbound Junction 3 Carmyle on slip road
  • M74 southbound Junction 3A Daldowie off slip road
  • M74 southbound link road to M73 northbound at Junction 4 Maryville

The closures are required to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst essential road resurfacing works are undertaken and have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic. The road will reopen at 6 AM each morning.

Signed diversion routes will be in place during closures.

The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership (SRP) on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route and have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, Police Scotland, Amey South West Unit, North Lanarkshire Council, South Lanarkshire Council and Glasgow City Council.

All works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
