A Bellshill man with Down's Syndrome no longer wants to go out alone after being cruelly mocked by a group of schoolgirls.
Amy Ellis' uncle John was walking home on Hamilton Road in his hometown when the youths approached him - they asked if he would buy them vapes from the nearby Fair Price store.
When John refused, the girls began "harassing, making fun of him and laughing" in the street.
The incident on Tuesday (May 3) left him "absolutely heartbroken" - now John's confidence has been shattered and he won't go out alone.
During the incident, John called his niece so she could hear what was happening and talk him through what to do.
Amy has now launched a desperate appeal for information in a bid to track down those responsible after police told her that "no criminality had taken place".
In a post on Facebook, Amy said: "Can't believe I'm actually having to post this but my Down Syndrome uncle was walking home today and was approached by a group of high school girls asking him to jump in and buy them geek/elf bars at Fuzzle's in Bellshill.
"He said no and they continued to harass him, laughing at him and make fun of him. John was smart enough to phone me so I could hear them.
"I've contacted the police but as 'no criminal activity took place' nothing can be done about it.
"I’m asking if anyone was in the area at the time seen or heard anything to contact me or any of my family.
"He was absolutely heartbroken at the girls 'laughing' at him and his confidence to go out alone has been shattered."
She added: "I can't believe there were a group of girls who could be so cruel to a vulnerable person and deliberately try and take advantage of him.
"I'm begging anyone who seen or heard anything to contact me please."
