A man has been jailed for nearly two years after a stabbing in Blantyre in broad daylight.
Damon Dixon lunged at his male victim with a blade, but the man escaped with only a minor cut.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that the victim told police officers: “That evil Damon Dixon tried to chop me with a kitchen knife. Do your job.”
Dixon, 26, a prisoner, admitted carrying out the assault in Larkfield Court on September 1, 2021
Jennifer Cunningham, prosecuting, said: “It happened about 12.30pm and was captured on CCTV.
“The man was standing outside a block of flats when the accused arrived with two other males.
“There was a conversation then Dixon and the victim walked towards each other.
“The man tried to strike the accused with his hand. The accused then reached into the waistband of his trousers and removed a kitchen knife.
“He lunged towards the victim and struck him on the left shoulder, causing a small superficial cut.
“Dixon then pursued him, attempting but failing to strike him again with the knife.”
Defence agent Laura Kiernan said her client has mental health issues. He accepted responsibility for the attack and, fortunately, the injury sustained was minor.
Dixon was on licence from prison at the time of the assault.
Sheriff Martin Jones jailed him for 22 months, backdated to June last year to take account of time already spent in custody.
