A man suffered a serious wound to his head when he was shoved to the ground during a row over a taxi.
The victim’s head hit the pavement when he fell, knocking him unconscious.
Paul Tempany, 28, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.
He admitted assaulting the man to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and the danger of his life in Muir Street, Motherwell, on February 9 last year.
Tempany, of Dalziel Tower, Motherwell, also admitted shouting and swearing at police officers.
Scott O’Connor, prosecuting, said the incident happened about 11.35pm.
Tempany was with his partner when he became involved in an argument about a taxi.
Mr O’Connor told the court: “This escalated and the accused pushed the victim forcibly on the chest with both hands, causing him to fall and strike the back of his head on the pavement.
“He lost consciousness and was lying motionless on the ground. Members of the public went to assist him.
“Police were contacted and when officers arrested Tempany on suspicion of assault he became aggressive, shouting ‘Get your f.....g hands off me. I’ve done nothing wrong’.
“He continued to shout and swear as he was being placed in the back of the police vehicle.”
The victim, who was drifting in and out of consciousness, was taken to hospital where his head wound was glued.
Defence agent Jim O’Dowd said comments made by the victim towards Tempany’s partner had started a “heated” argument.
Sheriff Martin Jones deferred sentence until next month for background reports.
