Lanarkshire man cleared of stairs shove on woman

A man has been cleared of assault after a young woman allegedly fell down a flight of stairs in Hamilton.

Liam McCutcheon was accused of holding a knife to the female's face and shoving her.

The alleged victim said she suffered a gash to her face and required hospital treatment.

However, McCutcheon, 21, a prisoner, was given a not proven verdict after trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week.

Jurors heard that he and the two women were in a house in Hill Street on January 3.

Both females said they had been drinking vodka and were drunk.

The alleged victim said she called the police because she felt threatened by McCutcheon.

Officers arrived at the property and McCutcheon allegedly produced a knife and said 'Tell them everything is all right or I'll be going back to jail'.

The police were assured there was no problem and left, but the woman said McCutcheon then became "really aggressive".

She said: "I was outside on the steps. I felt scared but I couldn't phone a taxi because my phone was dead and couldn't walk home.

"He attacked me. I can't remember what he did. There was blood everywhere."

At the same court last year McCutcheon was cleared of assaulting two men and a woman in Dechmont Street, Hamilton.
