Lanarkshire man appears in court in relation to alleged murder of 21-year-old Thomas O’Rourke

A 34-year-old man has appeared in court in private charged with the murder of Thomas O’Rourke.

The 21-year-old was found with serious injuries in the Coldstream Crescent area of Wishaw on Friday evening.

Emergency services were called to the area around 9.25pm on February 24, but the 21-year-old died a short time later.

Appearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, Francis McConnachie, from Wishaw, made no plea or declaration in relation to a charge of murder.

He was remanded in custody and will appear in court within the next eight days.

Tributes poured in for the alleged victim on social media, with his sister Tammy O’Rourke saying the family had received “the most devastating news ever”.

She added: “My heart’s completely broke, the baby of the family is gone. Rest in peace son.

“I love you so much Thomas, life will never be the same again. My poor baby brother.”

Friends also responded to the tragic news with tributes of their own, one said: “Rest in peace brother, you will be missed by many, gone but definitely not forgotten.”

Another posted: “Gonna miss seeing his wee cheeky face, gbnf Thomas.” While another simply read: “Ma wee pal, gutted.”
