Lanarkshire kids charity fly away with bumper cheque thanks to pigeon club members

A Wishaw kids charity flew away with a bumper cheque thanks the efforts of a Lanarkshire pigeon club.

Members of Newmains Pigeon Club held a dance to raise cash for the Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation.

And Les was delighted to accept a cheque for £550 from the members which will be put towards helping children with life-limiting illnesses achieve their dreams.

DreamMaker co-ordinator Angela Cook said: “We are so grateful to the committee and members of Newmains Pigeon Club for choosing to donate to us from their recent dance.

“We appreciate that it is a difficult time for everyone and these much needed donations mean the world to us and the brave children that our small charity supports.”

Les added: “It’s a great wee club and it was great for the committee and members to think of us. Events like this really help us to help the kids.”

The presentation from the pigeon club is just one of a number of fundraising initiatives for the DreamMaker Foundation over the next few weeks.

This Sunday’s Kiltwalk will see dozens of locals taking to the streets to raise cash which will be helped by the Hunter Foundation who will top up the funds by 50 per cent.

The charity also confirmed it will be teaming up again with Hamilton Park Racecourse.

The DreamMaker Foundation is sponsoring the opening family raceday of the season on Sunday, May 1.

Les added: “At the moment we have 65 people doing the Kiltwalk which is fantastic for us.

“It’s great to be teaming up with the racecourse as well.

"We have a limited tickets for our registered DreamMaker families and once you are inside a huge amount of the children’s activities are free.”
