Lanarkshire high school takes 400 pupils to complete Tinto Hill challenge for charity

Pupils from Holy Cross High School were delighted to accept the St Andrew's Hospice Tinto Hill Challenge for the first time in three years.

A record 376 pupils and 40 staff from the Hamilton-based school completed the challenge, the greatest number ever for one school to be involved.

And their efforts certainly paid off with a total of £6,273 raised for the Lanarkshire Hospice, with gift aid yet to be added.

Including the Tinto challenge, a 6k run and the sale of Christmas cards, for 2021/22 Holy Cross raised and donated a whopping £10,215.68. The total raised to date for St Andrew's Hospice over the years is an amazing £74,240.95 - an incredible amount for such a worthy charity.

Andrew Flynn from St Andrew's Hospice told Lanarkshire Live : "Wow! That was my first thought when Mrs Fagan told me the school wanted to bring 400 pupils to climb Tinto Hill.

"Since that moment, there have been lots of other times the team at Holy Cross High have made me say 'wow'.

"Once gift aid has been added they will have raised nearly £7000.

"That is incredible and on behalf of the patients and families who need St. Andrew's Hospice I would like to say, thank you.

"What a wonderful school, pupils, community and staff to think so selflessly of others - thank you."
