Lanarkshire has Scotland's angriest drivers - and third most frustrated in the UK

Shocking statistics have revealed Lanarkshire has the angriest drivers in Scotland - and the third most frustrated in the UK.

An astonishing 88.9 per cent of motorists in the region polled in a nationwide survey on road rage by money-saving organisation Hey Discount confessed to showing their frustrations behind the wheel.

This is close to the second-worst British area, Antrim (90 per cent), with East Riding of Yorkshire leading the way with its staggering 100 per cent total.

Durham and West Sussex ranked as the counties with the lowest proportion of road-rage drivers - both reporting 41.7 per cent - and, amazingly, were are the only ones where fewer than half of the drivers surveyed experience road rage.

The nearest Scottish area to Lanarkshire was Stirlingshire with its 83.3 per cent results.

The most popular road rage reaction is swearing, with 53.4 per cent admitting to using fruitful language as a first reaction to problems on the road.

A total of 44.2 per cent of motorists polled shout in order to alleviate road rage, and often do so "in conjunction with" swearing.

And 42.6 per cent reported slamming their horn when experiencing road rage, making it the third most common reaction.

A Hey Discount spokesman said: "Although beeping your horn is a less subtle form of road rage, it could potentially see you hit with a fine if you’re deemed to be 'not in full control of a vehicle'."
