Lanarkshire girl hoping for pageant success after reaching final of Miss Teen GB

A Lanarkshire girl has won a place in the finals of a prestigious teenage pageant.

Bobbie Jo Gilmour, from Fernhill in Rutherglen, will take part in the Miss Teen GB final this autumn in Blackpool.

The 16-year-old is hoping to raise funds for a good cause as well, by supporting the Together for Short Lives charity that supports children's palliative care.

Bobbie Jo decided to take part after a pal had success in another pageant last year, and she's delighted to have reached the final.

The Cathkin High pupil told Lanarkshire Live: "My friend Rachel did it last year and I actually watched her taking part on Facebook Live, and it looked like a lot of fun.

"I never knew about it until then, I thought pageants were just an American thing. So I entered but didn't expect to hear anything back, and then they got in touch to say I was in the semi finals. Then I was told I was one of 40 finalists, out of hundreds of semi finalists.

"I honestly never thought I'd hear back at all so I was shocked but happy at the same time. I just thought it looked like a fun thing to take part in."

The teenager has been given the title of Miss Teen Lanarkshire for the contest, which will be held in Blackpool in October and includes a "Beauty Queen Challenge" day.

Various prizes are on offer for those taking part.

However, part of the contest also involves helping the Together for Short Lives cause.

The charity aims to help families make the most of their remaining time with youngsters who are seriously ill.

Bobbie Jo, who hopes to study at art school and become an illustrator, added: "I'm just looking for sponsors the now ahead of October, and then I'll be fundraising for Together for Short Lives, who are a really good cause, so I'm glad to support them."

More details on the good cause can be found here.
