Dr Lisa Cameron MP has recognised a hero Lanarkshire teacher for her incredible fundraising efforts for a local food bank.
Lisa Sultana, from East Kilbride, who has raised more than £20,000 for good causes, was presented with an Early Day Motion tabled in the House of Commons.
The motion congratulated Ms Sultana for her fundraising successes in and out of the constituency recognising her "creative and determined efforts" in setting up a Facebook group and raffling prizes to raise money for Loaves and Fishes food bank, amongst others.
Ms Sultana has raised more than £20,000 for charities including the National Deaf Children’s Society.
Upon receiving the award, Ms Sultana, who teaches at a school in Motherwell, said: "Thank you so much to Dr Lisa Cameron MP. It was so lovely to meet once again. I am truly humbled and grateful for this motion."
Ms Sultana's efforts have also led to the first ever book vending machine in Scotland, which will provide up to 560 books at St Bernadette's in Motherwell, with the aim of increasing the attainment level in one of Scotland's most deprived areas.
Dr Cameron visited the school to see the impact of this work first hand.
The MP said: "Lisa Sultana has gone above and beyond to support our community with her fundraising efforts alongside her innovative children’s book vending machines helping children from deprived backgrounds to new books each term.
"Lisa is a wonderful example of selflessness and creativity in our community. I was delighted to recognise her work in parliament."
