Lanarkshire firm celebrates anniversary with new hotel contract

A Lanarkshire firm marked its tenth anniversary by securing a big-money deal to refurbish a hotel in Manchester.

Rutherglen-based Calma Group won a major new contract for a hotel forming part of a £200m mixed-used development in the city.

The contract marks the contractor’s next phase of growth.

Andrew Lafferty, managing director and co-founder, told Lanarkshire Live : “We’re delighted to have won this latest contract, which sees our company continuing to grow.

“This is the most recent win in a string of major new hotel, commercial and housing projects.

“As we celebrate our tenth anniversary this year, it’s great to see the business continuing to grow.

“I’d like to thank all of the team for their hard work and dedication in getting us to this stage.

"We are now well placed for further growth with a strong project pipeline and order book for the next five years.”

Calma Group currently employs more than 60 staff and have had a variety of projects around the UK and Europe.

Located in Manchester's Deansgate area, the development is being brought forward by Property Alliance Group in a joint venture with Starwood Capital.

The fast-track hotel fit out and refurbishment specialist has been appointed principal contractor for the refurbishment of the former Renaissance Hotel, which is at the heart of the new scheme.

The joint venture of redeveloping the hotel is an alternative to demolishing and rebuilding it and is more environmentally friendly and offers office space, car parking and a residential tower featuring 300 homes.

The transformation represents the final piece of the jigsaw in the city-centre renewal plan, which was drawn up after the IRA bombing in June 1996.

Andrew added: “We can’t wait to progress this important new project and we’re now recruiting new project teams to work on this and other new schemes.

“This is the most recent win in a string of major new hotel, commercial, and housing projects.

“The second of two Treehouse hotels in the UK, follows Calma delivering the first fast-track scheme for Starwood Capital Group and we are delighted to be invited to undertake another large project for this valued client.”

“We can’t wait to progress this important new project and we’re now recruiting new project teams to work on this and other new schemes.”
