Lanarkshire dog walkers step up to the mark to raise over £1300 for charity

A group of Lanarkshire dog walkers have stepped up to the mark and raised cash for charity.

Staff at the Cambuslang based Woofs and Whiskers decided to tackle the step for pets challenge to support the SSPCA.

The task from the charity asked people to walk 10,000 steps a day during February while raising funds for Scotland’s animals.

Having set themselves the target of raising a couple of hundred pounds, the 10 strong group were thrilled to shatter that mark and raise a terrific £1326 for the worthy cause.

They capped off the challenge by going on a 10 mile walk around Loch Drunkie in Aberfoyle as a group, and although there were some tired feet the next day the pals were delighted to help out.

Corrine Leggett, whose wife Harriet runs Woofs and Whiskers, told Lanarkshire Live : "One of the team, Holly, saw the SSPCA were doing the Step for Pets challenge and thought it was something that was worth doing.

"The SSPCA is such an amazing charity and you always want to help them with their work. They help so many animals and there are so many that just needing some help and care.

"We just had everyone going out and doing different steps when they could. I only work part time at Woofs and Whiskers as I have another job, so I'd go to the gym and get my steps in that way.

"It was really just encouraging everyone to do what they could when it suited them."

The group were also backed by plenty of people, meaning they soared past their early target of £250 and took over three million steps between by the end of the month.

Corrine added: "We got really great support from family and friends, and also from customers of the dogs we walk. It was really great to get that backing.

Along with Corrine and Harriet, taking part in the challenge were Holly Miles, Gayle Harkness, Becki McAlllister, Caitlin McKenzie, Alana Main, Chloe Lusk, Katy McGarry and Jennifer Zakolli.
