Lanarkshire dentist hopes to give kids a cracking Christmas with gift drive

A Lanarkshire woman is hoping to provide children with a cracking Christmas - thanks to a gift drive.

Emily Cunningham, who works at a dentist in Cambuslang, and her friend Zoe Jamieson have collected presents for youngsters every year for the past several years.

And Emily decided that not even her recent wedding would stop her from once again showing the Christmas spirit.

She told Lanarkshire Live : "We are sitting at 75 gifts so far. I’ve been later starting collecting them this year due to getting married five weeks ago but 75 is still amazing.

"I had planned on taking a back seat this year due to the wedding and being busier but so many people are in different and hard situations due to the rise in the cost of living.

"I couldn’t help myself to try and get others involved. I’m collecting them through to the beginning of December this year. and if anyone else wants to be a secret Santa then that would be great."

Dental nurse Emily has collected hundreds of gifts over the years, which are then distributed through the likes of Barnardos Glasgow and Easterhouse and Sean’s Trust Social Work.

The items then make their way to underprivileged children, with recent stats showing that one in five children in Scotland are considered to live in poverty.

This year Emily's working with the Glasgow's Spirit of Christmas appeal, which has helped nearly 90,000 children in Scotland since starting in 2014.

Donations can be handed in to Cambuslang Dental Care on the town's Main Street.

All that is needed is a gift, a gift bag and a tag suggesting the suitable age and gender for the child receiving the gift.
