Lanarkshire dealer caught with stash of drugs worth more than £10k is spared jail

A man has avoided jail after drugs worth more than £10,000 were found at his East Kilbride home.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard on Friday how police also seized £9600 in cash.

Scott Young, of Ontario Place, admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis, cannabinol and the derivative substance THC on June 2 and 3 last year.

Susan Davies, of Troon Avenue, East Kilbride, had her not guilty pleas to the charges accepted.

Jennifer Cunningham, prosecuting, said police forced entry to the house after getting a search warrant. Young, 34, and Davies, 48, were present at the time.

Drugs were found in the living room, bedroom and kitchen, including in the fridge and freezer.

The fiscal added: "Other items found were indicative of drug supply. These included digital scales, weights, unused bags and snap bags.

"The officers also recovered £9600 in cash.

"Young was arrested and provided a 'no comment' interview except to say that Davies had no involvement."

Police experts estimated the drugs recovered had a street value of £10,660.

Sheriff Liam Murphy had warned Young that he could be jailed, but after studying background reports the sheriff decided to impose a one-year supervision order instead.

Young was ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid community work.

He will also be electronically tagged for eight months, meaning he can't leave his home between 8pm and 6am each day.
