Lanarkshire daredevil pays the penalty for city centre crane high jinks

A Lanarkshire daredevil who filmed himself while climbing a towering crane in Glasgow has been fined.

Dylan Fraser, 24, from Carluke scaled the equipment, which is almost 240ft high, in the city centre on May 1 while recording his antics on a Go-Pro camera.

The 24-year-old’s high jinks have landed him in hot water before. He previously ended up in court after a similar ascent of one of The Kelpies in Falkirk along with a friend.

He was charged with breach of the peace and fined £200 on that occasion. However, the penalty clearly didn’t deter his head for heights when he decided to tackle the crane in Glasgow.

Footage which he has posted on social media shows him entering the construction site over a wall. He doesn’t appear to be wearing any safety equipment with the exception of gloves, but then climbs a ladder while speaking to the camera before removing the gloves remarking “it’s grippier” without them.

An audible alarm then goes off at which point he responds: “Oh no, that’s the police coming down this way.”

A police van can then be seen heading in the direction of the site while Fraser is at the pinnacle of the crane.

He then reveals that he was captured and received a fixed penalty of £40 for his sky’s the limit antics.

The footage has been viewed more than 300,000 times, with hundreds of comments left.

Fraser replied to one comment, saying: “Better than dealing with the fiscal. I got let off light tbh.”

Another person who commented wrote: “My nephew died about five years ago in Edinburgh climbing and jumping off some scaffolding. Absolute madness.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland, said: “A man was arrested for a breach of the peace after allegedly climbing

a crane on Hutchison Street, Glasgow at about 8.35pm on Sunday, May 1. He was issued with a fixed penalty notice.”
