Lanarkshire dance group crowned 'grand champions' at national competition

A based in Bellshill and Cumbernauld based dance group have been crowned 'grand champions' at the Incredibly Cool Events competition in Ravenscraig Sports Centre.

The Fame Xtreme Dance and Cheer group impressed the judgesto secure the highly acclaimed title, before further success for the troupe.

That saw their U17s 'Iconic Elite' all-star cheer team secure their chance to compete in the prestigious Allstar World Championships in Florida next May.

Dance teacher Stephanie Ellis-Trainor, who runs the dance school alongside her sister Natasha, told Lanarkshire Live : “We were absolutely overwhelmed and super proud; it’s such a prestigious thing to win.

" Our kids were in the U17s category and went head to head to win the grand champions which is awarded to the highest score of the day.

“We are so proud of each and every one of our athletes. Following their journey to just joining recently every single one of them put their all into it and we couldn’t be prouder. It was just amazing and is an accomplishment on its own.

“It’s our first year of competing in the Allstar cheer circuit and this is one of our proudest achievements. All credit goes to our athletes and the parents who support our decisions and make the team what it is today.

However, Stephanie and her talented team were bitterly disappointed when they had to take the difficult decision to withdraw from next year’s world championships due to the timing of the team’s school exams.

She explained: “Unfortunately, we have had to pull out of the world championships but we have not taken the decision lightly and have just made a team decision for the kids not to go.

“The under 17s team are sitting their Highers at the same time as the competition, but we are hopeful that we will get another opportunity in the future.”

And with the club now in its sixth year the 32-year-old from Hamilton, who is herself an accomplished world champion and passionate about the sport, is looking forward to a bright future for her young proteges and added: “We celebrate our wins and fight our losses together.”

The Fame Xtreme Dance and Cheer club operates 22 classes each week from its Bellshill industrial estate studio and Cumbernauld’s Cornerstone House. For more information, visit their website www.famextreme.co.uk
