A Lanarkshire dad has raised almost £1000 for a local charity ahead of a sponsored hike up Ben Nevis.
Kenny Gilmour is determined to provide as much support as possible to The Haven, a cause which helps people suffering with life-limiting conditions.
The 38-year-old from Lesmahagow is preparing for his challenge to reach the summit of Scotland’s highest mountain, which he will take on with his two sons.
Kenny’s wife, Alison, who started working with The Haven at the end of last year, has been supporting her husband during all of his training.
The hike will take place on Tuesday, July 26 and Kenny is looking forward to the 4413ft climb, with the beautiful, picturesque snowy backdrop of Scotland behind them.
The summit is 1345 meters above sea level and is the highest mountain, not only in Scotland, but in all of the United Kingdom.
Alison is one of The Haven Nurses who provide practical, emotional, wellbeing and bereavement support to individuals, families and carers across Lanarkshire.
Alison told Lanarkshire Live : “I know first-hand the difference their fundraising efforts will make as it will help ensure continued access to vital emotional support services for vulnerable individuals and families, and help achieve
"The Haven’s aim of reaching out and helping even more families ‘Face the Future with Hope’ during these challenging times”.
So far, over £900 in donations for The Haven has been received, and Kenny is nearing his set target of £1000.
Kenny told us : “The donations will help The Haven continue to provide first-class support to families affected by life-limiting illnesses and bereavement.
"This fantastic charity supports those with such health conditions and their families who support them.”
On his fundraising page, Kenny added: "Hiking to the summit of Ben Nevis has been on my bucket list for a while. I am doing this for two reasons- firstly for personal achievement, but secondly and most importantly to raise money for a worthwhile cause.
"Any donations are greatly appreciated and go a long way to help those in real need. Joining me on this hike will be my two sons."
The Haven are delighted to see Kenny raise a fantastic amount for the charity and have wished him the very best of luck in the hike and for all of his family's tremendous fundraising efforts.
