Lanarkshire curry house takes 'Nepalese restaurant of the year' title

An East Kilbride curry house said it was "very proud" to be honoured with a top gong at the Scottish Asian Food Awards.

Now in its third year, the awards recognise those who work their hardest to servie the Asian food industry which is growing and diversifying each year.

And the Wee Gurkha Curry House, based in the Village's Hunter Street, came out on top in the Nepalase Restaurant of the Year category.

Owner Mohan Bhandari told Lanarkshire Live : "It’s a fantastic achievement for us and I feel very proud.

"We’ve been in East Kilbride for over eight years and faced many challenges during that time.

"The last few years have been especially difficult and this award recognises everyone’s hard work and commitment.

"I want to thank my staff and of course our customers for their support of our small, local business.

"If you haven’t eaten with us before, give us a try. You won’t be disappointed."

The glamorous, black-tie awards ceremony was held at Glasgow's Marriott Hotel on November 28.

The award ceremony recognises and reward a variety of Asian restaurants, takeaways and eateries across Scotland, celebrating the achievements of businesses and individuals who connect communities through food and culture.

Other categories included Korean Restaurant of the Year, Asian Street Food of the Year and 5 Star Indian Restaurant of the Year, reflecting Scotland’s love for all kinds of Asian cuisine.

The Scottish Asian Food Awards 2022 are organised by Oceanic Consulting – the UK’s leading ethnic awards company.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Asian Food Awards said: “We’d like to say a massive congratulations to all winners and finalists from the 3rd Scottish Asian Food Awards 2022.

“This campaign designed to honour all varieties of Asian cuisine has done brilliantly across Scotland and it started in 2018.

“We’re proud to honour and celebrate the individuals who open Scotland’s doors to Asia’s kitchen.”
