An East Kilbride couple's night out at a pub ended in terror when a stranger confronted them with a knife and threatened to kill them.
Ethan Allan demanded money and said he knew where they lived and would be "coming to knife you".
The 23-year-old appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted assault with intent to rob in the town's Ballochmyle area on September 26 last year.
Aga Mathieson, prosecuting, said the man and woman had enjoyed a night at a pub and since the weather was fine they decided to walk home around 1am.
She told the court: "They passed the accused who turned towards them and shouted 'Give me your money. I have a knife.'
"He was waving a knife about and stabbing it in the air. He also shouted 'I'm going to stab you. I know where you live. I'm coming to knife you and f...... kill you.'
"A witness heard shouts for help and the police were contacted. Officers arrested Allan shortly thereafter."
Defence agent John McGeechan said Allan, of Govan, Glasgow, has had to cope with family tragedy and has mental health and drugs issues.
The lawyer stated: "He has previous convictions. There has been no stabilising influence in his life in recent years and he has served a number of short sentences."
Allan has been in custody since his arrest and Sheriff John Speir refused a request for bail while a criminal justice social work report is prepared.
The sheriff said: "In view of the serious nature of this matter and his record for breaching bail, I'm not persuaded that bail is appropriate at this time."
Sentence was deferred until next month and Allan was remanded in custody.
