All schools and nurseries across North and South Lanarkshire are to close next Monday as a mark of respect to Queen Elizabeth II.
Both councils today confirmed that in line with national guidance, all of their educational establishments will be closed on September 19 as Her Majesty's funeral takes place.
The date of the funeral was announced at the weekend and was declared a bank holiday.
Schools in both local authority areas will reopen as normal the following morning.
In a social media post this afternoon, South Lanarkshire Council said: "In line with national guidance, all South Lanarkshire schools and nurseries will be closed on Monday September 19, which has been declared a bank holiday to mark HM The Queen’s state funeral.
"All premises will reopen as normal on Tuesday September 20."
North Lanarkshire Council confirmed in a statement: "Following the announcement that the day of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday September 19 is to be a bank holiday, all schools and early learning establishments will be closed as a mark of respect.
"We will announce any impact on other services as soon as possible."
