North Lanarkshire Council is warning people about bogus workmen operating in the area.
There have been reports in Wishaw that workmen are posing as contractors on council roofing programmes, during and after normal working hours.
The council has told people to be on their guard and always ask for ID as contractors will always carry some.
If you are not sure about the authenticity of someone's ID, you should phone the council and they will be able to verify it for you.
Police Scotland also has advice on what to do if you are not sure someone is a bogus caller.
They say that you should always keep front and back doors locked and make sure to use a door viewer or nearby window when answering the door.
If someone approaches your doorstep and you are suspicious, you should contact your local Community Policing Team on 101.
You should only let callers in if they have an appointment and you shouldn’t feel embarrassed if you are not sure, genuine callers expect you to be careful.
More information on what to do should you expect someone is a bogus caller is available here.
Bogus callers can also make contact with you by phone. Get more information about this here.
