“He went to an awful lot of effort for not much.”
That was the thoughts of an exasperated business owner after a break-in at her snack van.
We previously told you how cops were on the hunt for a crook who broke into an East Kilbride snack van and stole a cash box.
Now the owner of Lesleyanne’s Snack Van has reissued an appeal to catch the thief, with cops saying they are following a “positive line of enquiry”.
Lesleyanne told Lanarkshire Live this week: “The police have been fantastic
“They phoned me this morning and have a couple of names they are looking into, so I’m waiting on them getting back to me.”
CCTV footage of the break-in circulated social media at the time, with locals determined to ID the “scumbag”.
The incident happened on Thursday, February 3 with the snack van back operating the next day.
As well as being angry and upset at the incident, Lesleyanne says she was left frustrated more than anything.
She added: “It obviously leaves you angry that someone has broken in, but more so - what was he expecting to get?
“There are signs on the van stating that no cash is kept in the van and that we have CCTV.
“He took the grill off and came in the window, grabbed the money box which only had about £50 float in it, a couple of cakes, some chocolate bars, chewing gum, the tips cup - which only had a couple of pounds in it - and two Lorne sausage.
“He went to an awful lot of effort for not much. Not really worth going through the insurance.”
The chances of catching the hungry crook are good, with the bungling burglar failing to hide his face to cameras.
Video footage and stills of the break-in clearly show the man’s face.
Police Scotland told us: “Enquiries are still ongoing to identify the male responsible.
“There is a positive line of enquiry.”
Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact police on 101.
Information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
