Lanarkshire cop cars allegedly attacked by man with 'machete' in late night incident

A man armed with a large knife allegedly ran at police vehicles and hit them with the blade in a late night incident in Motherwell at the weekend.

Police had attended Watson Street in the town following a report of a male in possession of a knife around 11pm on Sunday, May 1.

When they arrived at the scene they encountered the individual but he allegedly ran towards the police vehicles holding the weapon, before striking them with the kitchen knife and then throwing it at one of the vehicles.

The 27-year-old man was subsequently apprehended by cops in attendance - he is then alleged to have spat on one officer, shouted threats and resisted arrest.

He was then searched and it’s alleged another knife measuring three inches was discovered in one of his pockets.

He was arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
