Lanarkshire confectionery giants to recruit new staff to continue sweet success

A popular Lanarkshire confectionery firm is looking to hire new staff members - with one employee who has been with the company for nearly 30 years choc-full of praise for her employers.

Lees of Scotland are undergoing a "massive recruitment drive", with posts available including meringue forming operators, line leader and robot operative.

Established in 1931, the popular Coatbridge firm is a manufacturer of branded confectionery and meringues and is keen to add to its "hard-working team".

A key member of that team is process operator Joanne Hughes.

Joanne, 45, has been with Lees of Scotland since she was 16-years-old and "worked her way through the ranks".

Mum Joanne, from Kirkshaws, told Lanarkshire Live : "During my time at Lees I’ve had the pleasure of being part of many different teams, from packaging across the confectionery lines, which includes our Snowballs, Teacakes and bars, to working on the hygiene team.

"I'm currently a process operator but I’m also hoping to be successful in gaining a new position as a technical operator.

"I have been with the company since the age of 16 and I have absolutely loved my time here.

"I visited the on-site factory shop on my lunch breaks from school and when I heard there was a vacancy, I applied for the job - and I've never looked back since."

Joanne is full of praise for her workmates - and has positively reflected on her time with the confectionery giants.

She said: "The people I work with are my second family; we have a really great relationship.

"Some of my favourite memories of my time with the company are from work nights out, where everyone comes together.

"Each year, Lees hosts a Christmas lunch which is always a very fun day as everyone gets into the festive spirit and Clive, our CEO, makes a speech.

"I also decorate the factory for Christmas each year, which is one of my favourite things to do; I love getting the place into the mood for Santa's arrival."

Joanne didn't hesitate for one second in recommending Lees of Scotland as a "great place to be" to prospective new employees.

She added: "I work a four-day week, which is great for juggling my work and family time.

"I would wholeheartedly recommend joining the Lees team to others as there is so much potential here.

"Starting at a young age and progressing over the years has been an amazing experience. Like me, there are lots of people here at Lees that have worked their way up in the business; there are so many opportunities.

"New starts are teamed up with training buddies, which is a great way to build relationships and learn about the business and its products. Everyone at Lees is so approachable."

Roles currently available at Lees of Scotland are: confectionery/mallow process operators; meringue forming operators; line leader; robot operative; and packing operatives.

If you are interested in applying for any of the vacancies, email Anne Aitchison on vacancies@leesofscotland.co.uk or call 01236 441627.
