Lanarkshire community initiative will promote wellbeing thanks to lottery grant

A new Lanarkshire community initiative will aim to promote wellbeing in the local area after securing much needed funding.

Healthy n' Happy Community Development, based in Rutherglen, have now started running their ‘Wellbeing in The Community’ programme, filled with fun, active, creative and learning opportunities.

The new scheme will aim to cater for all ages in the Cambuslang and Rutherglen, and comes after they landed an award from the National Lottery Community Fund, made possible by National Lottery players.

Yoga and body boost bingo classes are already underway thanks to the extra funding.

Brendan Rooney, executive director of Healthy n' Happy, told Lanarkshire Live : “We’re thrilled to receive this award.

"It will allow us to offer an even wider variety of activities, workshops and events across our local communities.

"They will run in lots of indoor and outdoor venues across CamGlen, including our own Number 18 Venue and Biketown. We’ll also feature as many as possible on our community radio station, CamGlen Radio”.

Kate Still, from the National Lottery, said: “National Lottery funding can make amazing things happen in local communities across the country.

"This project delivered by Healthy n' Happy is a great example of community activity in action, showing just what can be achieved when people come together for a common cause or to help others.

"National Lottery players can be proud to know that the money they raise is helping to support this vital work and to help communities thrive."

In order to deliver these new activities, Healthy n' Happy would like to connect with established local instructors and tutors.
