Lanarkshire community group given £5k grant to help support year of fun events

A Lanarkshire group has received vital funding to support a number of community projects taking place within the next year.

After a successful application by the Overton Tenants and Residents Association to the National Lottery, they were awarded a grant of £5500.

The Cambuslang group will now look forward to providing fun community events which locals can enjoy starting in the coming months.

One of the initiatives which will receive a huge boost is the association's children's Christmas event. This will be allocated £1600 to support the event and includes providing a gift to local kids.

There will also be a Christmas event for senior citizens where £1700 of the funding will support this going ahead.

Looking ahead to next year, the Overton Tenants and Residents Association will host a community summer outing and will be supported by £1500 of the grant recently provided.

And a further £700 will be used to cover costs of a Jubilee fun day which takes place in November.

Barbara Parkes, treasurer of the group, said: "It is with great pleasure, we can announce that our application has been successful, and we have been awarded a Grant of £5500.

"This Grant will be used for the four projects outlined in our application, and they are as follows: £1600 for a children’s Christmas event, including a gift; £1700 for a Christmas event for senior citizens; £700 for a Jubilee themed fun day; and £1500 for a community summer outing in 2023.

"As treasurer of Overton Tenants and Residents Association, and on behalf of all of the committee, I would like express our sincere gratitude to the National Lottery, for their generosity is supporting our community with such a substantial award."

The National Lottery awards grants to local community groups and initiatives which matter most to people in the area.

In Scotland, voluntary or community organisations can apply for funding between £300 and £10,000.
