A Lanarkshire comic book artist is set to chat about his varied career at an upcoming event.
Vin Deighan is known by his pen name Frank Quitely and has illustrated the likes of Batman, Superman and the X Men.
The Rutherglen artist will now talk about his work when he appears at the Imprint book festival in East Ayrshire later this month.
He'll be at the Dick Institute in Kilmarnock on October 27, in conversation with Laurence (Billy) Grove, the Professor of French and Director of the Stirling Maxwell Centre for the Study of Text/Image Cultures at the University of Glasgow.
Author of nine books, his research focuses on historical aspects of text and image forms, like comics and graphic novels, which he will discuss with Vin, who has worked with industry giants Marvel and DC as well as on a number of independent smashes like Kick-Ass and Jupiter's Legacy with fellow Scot Mark Millar.
In 2017 Vin's work was spotlighted in an exhibition at Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow.
At the time he spoke about how growing up in Rutherglen had influenced his later work.
He said: "I’ve always drawn on anything I can for inspiration, from the way people sit on the bus from Rutherglen to seeing people waiting for a first date, or getting fed up in a cafe because the waiter is taking too long to get to them.
"So there’s scenes in the We3 comic that I based on Cathkin Braes, or bits of Millport turn up in Jupiter’s Legacy.
“As I’ve always lived in Scotland the imagery will come from there the most.”
