Talented Coatbridge-raised comedian, broadcaster and columnist, Ayesha Hazarika, will make a return to the Edinburgh Fringe festival with her highly acclaimed show, State of the Nation - Power, Politics and Tractors, next month.
The 47-year-old took up comedy after she was persuaded by a friend to take a course run by comedian, Logan Murray.
Ayesha then began to perform comedy gigs while working at the Department of Transport and Industry.
And in 2003, she was a finalist on the Channel 4 stand-up comedy competition, So You Think You’re Funny.
However, her comedy career took a back seat after 2007, when she focused on her career as a political adviser.
She worked with senior Labour figures, including Harriet Harman and Ed Miliband, from 2007 to 2015, and after leaving her role working with Harman, she was awarded an MBE for political service.
Ayesha made a return to stand-up in 2016, when she performed a show at the Edinburgh Fringe festival inspired by her time in politics.
And a year later she brought a new show, State of the Nation, to the festival.
In December 2018, she appeared on the hit BBC show Have I Got News for You as Ian Hislop’s team mate, and reprised her role in May 2020 during the Lockdown series.
Ayesha will perform in Edinburgh from August 8-14 at the Gilded Balloon, Teviot Debating Hall, with her satirical show, where she revisits the state of politics, but this time she has called in reinforcements - a daily panel of top guests from the world of comedy and politic.
