Lanarkshire comedian all set to perform at Glasgow Comedy Festival

Celebrated Lanarkshire comedian Stuart Mitchell is set to take to the stage at Òran Mór with his hilarious and relatable new show as part of Glasgow Comedy Festival next month.

Stuart, the longest running panellist on BBC Scotland's Breaking the News, is well loved for his perceptive Facebook videos, many of which went viral during lockdown.

His new show, Is It Just Me?, which was rescheduled from March 2020 due to the pandemic, originally sold out within 48 hours, causing it to be moved to the higher capacity Òran Mór.

Stuart’s accolades include being chosen to perform in the Best of the Edinburgh Fest showcase at the Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne Comedy Festivals, following in the footsteps of Dara Ó Briain, Paul Merton and Craig Ferguson.

He was also endorsed by Hollywood superstar Will Ferrell after performing in LA and has written for BBC's Mock the Week, as well as BBC Radio 4's The News Quiz and The Now Show.

Stuart is set to discuss everything from his first job, where he used to put eyeballs on Bart Simpson cakes at the Lightbody Factory in Hamilton for 12-hour shifts, to his recent move from East Kilbride to Biggar, where the difference in Facebook community pages has given him a lot of material.

He also discusses his partner, who works in the kids’ entertainment group Funbox, which Stuart describes as “not the best name to reveal to your mates when you’re out for a drink down the pub.”

Stuart will also be recording BBC Scotland’s comedy panel show Breaking The News on Thursday, March 3 at the Drygate in Glasgow, with the programme going out the following day.

Stuart Michell told Lanarkshire Live : "The idea for my new show came about when I started to question what I was seeing around me in life and I would always say to my wife “is it just me?".

"And normally the answer would be yes! So I guess I want to ask a wider audience to see if it is just me after all. The show is really honest and there’s nothing I won’t share with the audience.

“I was kept entertained during the last couple years making online content so it will be great to be able to perform in front of a proper audience again, I can’t wait."

Tickets to Is It Just Me? on March 25 and 26 can be purchased online.
