Lanarkshire club to host disco fundraiser for Ukrainian charity

Airdrie Working Men's Club is doing its bit for the people of Ukraine by hosting a nostalgia-flavoured charity night.

The town centre venue is inviting people along to its 'Back to the 70s & 80s Disco' on Friday, April 8.

People will be able to boogie the night away on the dancefloor - and all proceeds from the event will go towards the Chernobyl Children's Lifeline.

Established more than 30 years ago, the organisation supports the children of Chernobyl and has expanded and diversified its operation so that "whilst still caring for the children it now includes supporting whole families, children’s hospitals, special care centres, orphanages and schools".

A statement on the charity's website reads: "We work primarily in the northern regions of Ukraine that are being badly affected by the current conflict and have no political affiliation.

"We are known and trusted by the local communities and our only interest is to help the children and their families by being there for them in their time of need."

A spokesman for Airdrie Working Men's Club told Lanarkshire Live : "The situation in Ukraine is absolutely horrendous so we want to do all we can to help children and families caught up in the conflict.

"The Chernobyl Children's Lifeline has been bringing Ukrainian children to Lanarkshire for holidays for 30 years and are in direct contact with families who are fleeing the horrors of war.

"The 'Back to the 70s & 80s Disco' is sure to be a great night of fun and dance and we hope as many people as possible come along to help this wonderful cause."

The disco, for anyone aged 18 and over, starts at 7.30pm on April 8; entry is a £10 donation and tickets are available now online.
