Lanarkshire club named Scotland's boxing gym of the year at prestigious awards

A Lanarkshire gym has thanked its dedicated members after being named Scotland's boxing gym of the year.

Bravehearts boxing gym in Hamilton recently scooped the accolade at the Prestige Business Awards.

The awards celebrate small and independent businesses across the UK who offer excellent services to people in their community.

The Hamilton complex specialises in boxing and fitness training and just over a year ago, it became the first gym in Scotland to open an outdoor boxing ring.

The state-of-the-art facility has since been used by professional fighters and has proved popular with clients ever since.

But Bravehearts prides itself as "more than just a gym", after years of running additional events for clients such as hill walks and camping trips.

Last year, owner Steven McMillan went above and beyond in supporting one of his clients and friends in completing a mammoth Ironman challenge.

He joined gym goer Kenny Hill who faced the venture on the back of losing 17 stone in September 2021.

Together they smashed the triathlon, and it's togetherness that has helped the gym flourish in recent years to claim this recent award.

Speaking on the achievement, Steven said: "I'm delighted to announce that we, Bravehearts boxing gym is the 2022/23 winner of the Prestige Business Award for boxing gym of the year.

"At Bravehearts, we all know that our gym is more than just a gym and this award highlights why we are so special.

"We have everything from boxing classes to hill walks, from cycling to swimming and from camping to trail running! Now we have our very first business award to celebrate all our hard work and commitment.

"Personally, I'm super happy and super proud of this award! When I received the phone call, I was honestly so pleased for us all at Bravehearts.

"It has inspired me to push forward even more. As you all know, I don’t look for a pat on the back but when we get recognised, it’s amazing!

"We are more than just a gym because of who we are together. Massive thank you to all our members, partners and sponsors. We've all played a part in this, and I can't thank you enough."

Hundreds have since passed on their congratulations to Steven and all the team at Bravehearts boxing gym as they continue their great work in the local community.
