A retired clerk from East Kilbride has been given the Royal seal of approval in the New Year Honours List.
Catriona Innes will be awarded the Royal Victorian Order (MVO) for ‘extraordinary, important or personal services to the Sovereign or to the Royal Family.’
The honour is related to public service within Glasgow City Council’s Lord Provost and International Office, spanning 32 years - particularly her work associated with the Lord Lieutenancy.
A Post Office spokesperson said: “Consultation on the proposed move for Strathaven Post Office ended in mid-December. We have not reached a final decision yet.”
It’s bestowed directly at the discretion of the Sovereign - not on the advice of the Prime Minister.
Following her graduation with an MA in Geography and Economics from the University of Glasgow Catriona, spent a short spell in hospitality before joining the Office of the Lord Provost in 1990 as assistant adviser.
Her exceptional diplomacy, diligence and organisational skills latterly led to her promotion to the role of Adviser to the Lord Provost and Clerk to the Lord Lieutenancy, supervising the city’s royal, civic and international engagements, retiring in May 2022.
Catriona said: “News of the honour came as a total surprise. It’s been my professional privilege to meet the Royal family during their visits to Glasgow.
"I shall particularly cherish my memories of the late Queen Elizabeth II during her tours of the city.”
And Lord Provosts have lined up to praise their former adviser recognised by King Charles III in his first Honours List.
Nominations were led by a series of former Lord Provosts - Bob Winter, Sadie Docherty and Eva Bolander.
Glasgow hosts an average of 10 Royal visits a year meaning Catriona was personally involved in the organisation and supervision of more than 300 Royal engagements liaising with relevant Royal households, Metropolitan Police Protection staff, Police Scotland and partners.
Bob Winter said: “I have no hesitation in supporting this nomination.
"Catriona was of immense support to me during my period of office, particularly assisting my role as Lord Lieutenant from 2007 to 2012 through her meticulous planning and organisation of numerous Royal visits by the late Queen Elizabeth II and her husband the Duke of Edinburgh, as well as other senior members of the Royal family.
"I will be forever grateful for her knowledge, experience, diplomacy and discretion.”
The Royal Victorian Order was founded by Queen Victoria in 1896. The Order is used to recognise a wide variety of service to the Sovereign and the Royal Family.
