Lanarkshire classic car show hopes to drive influx of visitors to town

A host of stunning classic cars will be on display for the first time in a unique Lanarkshire show next month.

Lovers of some of the world's most iconic vehicles through the years are in for a treat when they come to Lanark town centre on Saturday, May 21.

Organised by Discover Lanark, the free event will present a selection of memorable motors from the 1930s right through to current models.

It will be the first of its kind for Lanark and organisers hope it can lead to being an annual attraction.

The event takes place in the heart of Lanark town centre using the new community event space in Hunter’s Close and High Street next to the Tolbooth in the town.

A full list of over 25 entrants are yet to be revealed but will be available to locals on the lead up to the show.

However, current highlights include a selection of Wolseleys from the 1930s to the 1970s; an MG Midget and MGB; a 1959 Edzel, as well as a 1965 Buick.

Also on display will be more modern models such as a Porsche 911 Carrera and modern-day Aston Martin Vantage.

The Lanark Car Show promises to be a full fun day out for all the family with free free children’s activities delivered by Material Geeks, guaranteeing plenty to do for visitors of all ages.

Antonia Pompa, Discover Lanark manager, told us : “We are delighted to be welcoming such a variety of eye-catching cars to Lanark town centre for our first Lanark Car Show.

"With car enthusiasts on hand to tell you all about their vehicles and free activities for the children, we are sure that everyone will have an enjoyable time.”

She added: “The show is right in the heart of the town centre so, while visiting the event, don’t forget to pop into our many fantastic local shops and hospitality businesses.”

Discover Lanark hopes that Lanark Car Show will become an annual attraction and part of a programme of monthly pop-up events to attract visitors to the town.
