Lanarkshire chemist helps Ukrainians by sending medical supplies to conflict

A Lanarkshire chemist has been working around the clock to send vital medical supplies to the Ukraine.

The country was invaded by Russia last week, with many of its cities being bombed since the assault began. Other countries around the world are now trying to help support Ukrainian citizens, including many Scots.

And that includes staff at Dickson's chemists in Rutherglen who hope the items - which includes bandages, anti-bacterial dressing and first aid wound care - can help locals in the war torn country.

Westbourne Medical Studios, a private GP clinic in Glasgow, has been coordinating local efforts to send resources to the Polish and Ukrainian border, and that led Dickson's to contribute around 40 boxes of medical supplies.

Stephen Dickson, the chemist's superintendent, told Lanarkshire Live : "We are very pleased to be able to provide necessary first aid equipment to the Ukraine on behalf of the people of Cambuslang and Rutherglen, and the surrounding area.

"We had a bit of short notice on Sunday from our colleagues at Westbourne Medical Studios, who have been working with the people sending the first loads of aid.

"Our staff spent most of Monday frantically preparing donations for the convoy, with many of them also working through their breaks and lunchtimes to make the deadline possible.

"We are very grateful to them for their efforts and hope that our efforts practically help someone in the war zone.

"We have been able to send everything from basic bandages, to anti bacterial dressings and first aid wound care within the confines of EU law.

"Every little thing that can be done to support the Ukrainians in this dreadful time should be done - that’s why we are also supporting the fund to help look after the displaced children of Ukraine."

Dickson's are not the only local outlet trying to help out. The Rain or Shine South Lanarkshire charity are looking to collect kids adults clothing, warm shoes, towels toiletries, blankets and canned food that will be sent to the country.

The donations will be collected by this Friday, March 7, if anyone wants to help and all donations are welcome.

Also helping is the Polish shop on Greenlees Road in Cambuslang. They are taking in baby food, formula, protein bars, power banks, blankets and batteries and will be sending them to help refugees who have fled to Poland since Russia invaded.
